Real Madrid Shuts Down Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium for Pitch Repairs Due to Fungal Damage
Real Madrid has temporarily closed the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium to repair the pitch after it was found to be in poor condition. The issue came to light during Castilla’s home game against Ibiza, where the field’s substandard state was evident. A fungal infection is believed to be the cause of the deterioration, affecting the grass and rendering it unplayable.
In response, Real Madrid has initiated an urgent recovery plan to restore the pitch to optimal conditions. As part of the treatment process, the stadium will remain unavailable for use until the field is deemed ready. The closure directly impacts Real Madrid Femenino, Real Madrid Castilla and Juvenil A — all of which regularly use the stadium.
Raúl’s Castilla squad, who were scheduled to play at the Di Stéfano Stadium on Sunday, September 15, against Betis Deportivo, will now relocate to “Field 7” at the club’s Valdebebas training facility. Their next home game is set for September 28, and the hope is that the pitch will be restored by then. Real Madrid Femenino’s crucial UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Sporting de Portugal on September 26 is also scheduled at the Di Stéfano Stadium, meaning the pitch repairs are on a tight deadline.
Additionally, the Juvenil A team will play their UEFA Youth League match against Stuttgart on Tuesday, September 17, at “Field 11,” also at Valdebebas, rather than the stadium.
The club has informed members that, due to the limited seating at the alternate venues, tickets for these matches will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no ticket office sales during this period.
