La Fiesta En Madrid: 3 June 2024

I originally intended to do a year in review to begin this week’s Daily Threads (which will feature some of my best work) but after spending the majority of the day watching out celebrations, let’s continue the celebrations + hangover for a bit longer.

Welcome to The Daily Merengue — a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!

Shoutout to the Mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, KungFuZizou, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, and Lord Juninho (the “boogeyman”).

CAMPEONES CAMPEONES OLE OLE OLE

What a season?!

Although “tenemos que sufrir,” again Real Madrid Club de Futbol has persevered to win a La Liga Title, a Spanish Supercup, and a 15th Champions League title. They (and tbh we did too) said we didn’t have enough attacking firepower, there were too many injuries, Carvajal eats gluten, Joselu was too slow, there was Pep’s City, its Tuchel who doesn’t lose, Lunin in the net for penalties, Barcelona bought Joao Cancelo (this was said lol), and they’re too young to lead a front line (and at times too old to lead a midfield), but this team didn’t care.

They just won.

So Congratulations Real Madrid CF. Congratulations to all the players, coaching staff, board members, stadium staff, media personnel, and fans. We did it.

Now let’s see some of the highlights from yesterday’s celebrations.

Funny Outtakes (feat. Bailando, EL LOCO, etc.)

How can you not love this team? Como no te voy a querer?

La Familia

”Don’t speak on the family crodie”

This Real Madrid team is truly a family. IMO this isn’t debatable but this is potentially the friendliest and most likable Real Madrid team of my lifetime. You can tell when this team talks about each other and after games and during vacations that this is more than a job to many of them. They truly like each other. They like spending every waking moment together and maybe that’s simply because they’re all young. It’s truly a beautiful thing to watch.

A huge thanks for this Real Madrid ethos has to fall on our structure. Florentino and co ensure a level decorum, respect, and accountability. Juni Calafat (my. namesake) has done a world class (honestly legendary) job at recruiting players who do are not only exceptional talents BUT fit our team’s mentality. And then of course, Carlo is a master man manager.

OH ALSO THERE’S CAMAVINGA!

Final Farewell Toni
